With a beautiful text by Philip Doddridge, this setting is a prayer to God that will move choir and congregation alike.
Do not I love thee, O my Lord?
Behold my heart and see:
And turn each cursed idol out,
That dares to rival thee.
Do not I love thee, O my soul?
Then let me nothing love;
Dead be my heart to every joy,
When Jesus cannot move.
Within the darkness of this heart
Other gods would vie for my affections
But Thou art exalted
Thou art exalted
Thou art exalted far above all gods!
Thou knowest I love thee, dearest Lord,
But O, I long to soar
Far from the sphere of mortal joys,
And learn to love thee more!

|Background Info:||I first met Vic Gordon while I was a student at Wheaton College (he was the campus pastor). It was my privilege to work alongside him for 10 years at First Baptist Church of Wichita. He now pastors Crossroads Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH.|
Our choir sang the song, “Do Not I love Thee” a few months back and our youth just recently sang it. I now have it on my Mp3 player and listen to itfrequently. I wanted you to know that no song has touched my heart as much as this song. The words stir me and say exactly what I want to say to the Lord.
