I was pleasantly surprised to see my arrangement included from “Pure Curry,” “Wonderful Words of Life,” in the book! I will say that arrangement is a favorite of mine as well. Usually heard/performed with a waltz feel, my arrangement slows the piece way done, turning it into a reflective ballad with some lush harmonies thrown in for good measure. This was a commissioned work especially for this occasion and features mixed voices, brass, organ, timpani and percussion. It was her annual “My Favorite Things” show, where she goes through a list of products she likes and then proceeds to give one to each member in the audience. It opened with a bang: an ipad for everyone (!). Once she started handing out designer boots and purses, I moved on. Besides, a room full of screaming women wears on the ears pretty quickly. But it got me thinking about making my own list of things I liked and things I liked or am grateful about this past year.
